Last Saturday, I went to my son's Christmas presentation - English one in the morning and Japanese one in the late evening. The time was too early for the English school and the other was too late. Anyway, it is hard to train the kids to perform. I remember when I was in kindergarten and elementary school, we had play. When I was a kid, there was always one or two main casts and assisting casts, and many more. And there was always the popular boy or girl who got a main cast. But recently there is no such star performer in Japan. There are three Snow White, three kings, three princess, etc.
Recently Japanese school try to avoid competition as much as possible, especially in their early age, but this trend continues until they graduate from College. So when they graduate from college and enter the work force, they finally realize that there is a very hard competition in the society. Then they are shocked and depressed.
I think healthy competition is good and we as a adult should teach the real world. If we raise our children in a happy bubble, they will never learn the reality of the world. I think looking for the partner is somewhat the same. If I don't tell the clients the reality, and tell them what they want to hear, they may not be able to find anybody. And sometimes, they blame us because I did not introduce the person they wanted. But you should know who you are and where you are standing now. And know your limit and accept your gift. Everyone is different and you don't have to be the same.

A Couple with Big Age Difference
Recently there are quite a few couples with Big Age difference in Japan - in the past
men were more than 10 years older than woman, but in 21st century, women are actually
10 years or more older than men! I met a few of them and my cousin also married to
14 years younger British guy and they had a baby when my cousin was 42!
Women in late 30s and 40s envy them when they hear those stories - and all my friends
seem happy with younger guys because they take care of the kids, helping family chores,
young, so they are not easily tired. But I never heard from men's comments.
I still think for marriage, men and women should grow together, so age matters.
So I don't think it is not good idea for older men to marry younger women, but also
older women should tell the truth about their age. Since if the young men want
children, but she is already passed the fertility age, even though she is beautiful,
and they get married, young husband will be unhappy in the end. And older woman
want to keep him so she make every effort to be young - try to look like 35, even she
is 50.
Maybe if a couple feels happy, it does not matter! and those couple will exist
in the future, too. But I personally think media encourage older women to chase
young men or give them dream that they could get younger men. It is not really
true. People should age gracefully, and people should live as they are 20s, 3os,
40s, and 50s. I mean you don't have to feel old, but you can be young in heart,
but you have to remember that you ARE not 25 if your real age is 45. And you
will be miserable when you really feel it in your heart.

Christmas Decoration
It is already December 6th. Time flies. Next year is 2008 presidential election.
I have lived in the US for more than 7 years now.
I put our mini Christmas tree yesterday. 10 years ago, Christmas is more like
commercial event in Japan and department stores and shopping malls decorate
for Christmas, but not at home so much. We put Christmas tress, but we did not
decorate outside.
But last year I went back to Japan, I saw a few houses were decorated by lights
as we see in the States.
I saw on the Internet that even in China, a lot of department stores and shopping
malls are decorated by lots of lights and ornaments. And people buy Christmas
gifts.
I think for people in Japan and China, they still think that Christmas is just a
event, and exchanging gifts, decoration with lots of lights and feast. But
even so, Christmas brings a lot of joy and happiness to people's heart.

Internet TV program
I like Japanese drama. But one thing I am very unhappy is that I cannot watch Japanese drama and TV shows on American TV. Recently you can download some TV shows from the Internet and save it on to iPod, but Japanese government is very strict about controlling Japanese media. And there are ways to watch Japanese TV shows on Internet, but some free service (Yahoo! broadband Japan) won't accept IP address outside Japan.
My friends told me that there are some Internet site which provide Japanese dramas, and finally I can watch some
shows! But again the problem -- Most hosting servers are run by Koreans and they use mega speed High speed
Internet, like 1GB, versus Comcast, which they advertise very high speed, but only 54 mps, but usually 48 mps,
you have to wait for downloading time to time.
In 2010, all the TV shows are going to digital, so maybe by that time, Japanese living overseas may be able
to watch Japanese TV more freely on the Internet.
By the way, some TV dramas have subtitle in English, Korean, and Chinese, so you can enjoy Japanese
dramas. Of course many animes, too!
