Yesterday was my birthday. My husband gave me the DVD titled "Super size me".
Basically the film maker guy trying to eat 3 meals a day at McDonald's for 30 days,
and what was happened to him as a result. He gain almost 30 pounds a month -
not only the weight gain, his blood test result became very bad, he was told by
the doctor to stop this high fat diet. I was shocked. Last 20 years, Americans
stopped cooking at home - even they cook, they buy frozen, half prepared meal
and call it good. The number of obese people are increasing dramatically, yet
people still eat unhealthy. I was a nutrition major when I was in college, so I
was so thrilled about this fact. At public school, they eat junk food for lunch.
And elementary school, kids exercise only once a week for 45 minutes. High
school students take pizza and french fries for lunch and drink a sugary (not
diet) soda every day. Recently more and more Japanese become fat, but compared
to the size of Americans, we are still babies.
We often receive registration from the big men and want to meet nice petite Japanese
women. But reality is if you are so big and fat, it is almost impossible to meet petite
pretty Japanese women, not only Japanese women, any women. From the health
point of view, obesity is very very bad. I just cannot believe that some people
eat until they cannot move??? How can you do that? How can you get the food
if you cannot move? I know it is very hard to lose weight and change the diet, but
American must have stronger will and cut back all the fatty food and sugar.
Sometimes it is easier for Americans to lose weight if they live in Japan. We don't
sell super size meal, there are fast food restaurants, but we also sell traditional food.
And if you try Japanese food and like it, you eat more low Calory, healthier meal
often. Also you have to walk a lot. Public transportation is excellent in Japan, so
you don't have to drive and pay for the car payment. you take trains and buses.
Anyway, I as a nutrition major and trying to eat healthy, American should try Japanese
food more. I wish I could introduce Japanese cuisine to Deep south, which the most
obese people live. If there is any Japanese restaurant in your town, try at least once
a week, instead of going to McDonald or any American restaurants who serve big
portion with a lot of french fries.

FREE service
The other day I heard from my friend that American likes the word "FREE".
Japanese also like the word "FREE", but we have a saying "Tada yori takai
mono wa nai = Free things is more expensive than anything."
I have been living in the US for almost 8 years and what I don't like about
American marketing is "Buy 2, get one Free!", or "Mail-in Rebate". In
Japan, we don't have "mail-in rebate". When you go to the store, you usually
get the discount at that place, so that you feel you saved money.
In America, you have to pay for the full price, but you have to mail in some
coupons with receipt, and wait for the check to be sent. I tried a couple of
times, but sometimes it is very tricky and I gave up sometimes. Also
"Buy 2, get one free", is you have to buy more. You ended up with unnecessary
purchases.
And recent online dating is the same. You can create your profile for free, but
when you actually try to use the service, you have to pay. Recently Pacific
Relations decided to give every men for 3 months free membership - totally free!
Since men likes to take an initiative and ask women out for date usually, we
want you to experience our service and see our attractive Japanese women.
If you are one of the guys who are still single and available, please check
Pacific Relations.

Charity
America's holiday season will start pretty soon! Thanksgiving and Christmas, New year. I receive many mails from non-profit organization for charity and donation. I think many Americans still care about needy people in the world and in America. My son's school is Christian based preschool, so they teach children about charity. So we made gift shoebox, put many toys and school supplies. I can't imagine there are still so poor children who appreciate just one pencil or small box of crayons so much and take care of them like a treasure. Japanese people usually do not care so much about charity - or maybe most Asian do not care so much. I guess this is another big cultural difference for westerners to understand. Western countries are mostly based on Christianity and whether you are Christian or not, you are influenced by that since you are little. As society matures and people are satisfied with so much wealth, it is the time to think and care for others. But recently I don't see the reverse.
